Darcel Deneau, 6pm-7pm
Please join us on Thursday, April 30, for a very special artist talk by Darcel Deneau, a Detroit-based visual artist celebrated for her remarkable mosaic work that blends painterly techniques with stained glass and found materials.
A 2021 Kresge Arts in Detroit Fellow, Deneau holds a BFA from the College for Creative Studies, where she currently serves as president of the Alumni Council. She is also an honorary board member of the Detroit Artists Market and an active member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA).
With a deep-rooted love for her hometown, Deneau draws inspiration from Detroit’s complex history and ongoing resurgence. After more than ten years as a painter, she transitioned to the craft of glass-based mosaics eight years ago. Her ongoing “Un-Shattered” series uses fragments of broken glass and found objects to construct luminous urban landscapes that reflect the city’s transformation—reimagining decay as beauty and brokenness as resilience.

Mel Rosas, 6pm-7pm
Mel Rosas received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Drake University in Des Moines. He earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Mel is an emeritus professor with the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History and Design, Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan where he served from1976 – 2021. Mel has exhibited his drawings and paintings extensively in local and national venues and one can view his work in numerous corporate and private collections on national and local levels. His paintings and drawings are included in numerous private and corporate collections including the Chemical Bank, New York, NY, Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit, MI, Carnegie/Mellon Institute, Pittsburgh, PA, Southeast Banking Corporation, Miami, FL, and the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC.
