Onward and Upward in 2014

It’s 2014 and we are excited. A lot of new happenings are taking place and we’re so pleased to share them with you. New for 2014, we will be renovating the Jewelry/Metals Studio, running new camps in partnership with the Lori Haber Buckfire Foundation, and initiating Meet Me @ the Center.

The Jewlery/Metals Studio is scheduled for renovation this summer. The BBAC was awarded the MCACA grant for development. We plan to expand storage space to remove hazardous equipment from the workspace when not being used. We hope this will make the studio safer and we can open it up for new students. The workstations will be redesigned, adding more workspace for our students. 2013 also had renovations for the Jewelry/Metals Studio, including better ventilation for safer air quality. Together, these renovations will make our students and studio safer and more free to create.

Also on the books for this summer, the Lori Haber Buckfire Foundation will be offering camps for children whose lives have been touched by cancer. Their mission to help children cope with cancer through art is inspiring. We are so moved to be a part of their efforts. You can check out Dan Buckfire’s interview on Channel 4 here. Lori’s posters and book, “The Best of Life,” are on sale in the BBAC Gallery Shop. All proceeds are donated back to Planet Lori to fund the children’s art camp.

Coping with art is also the central component of our new outreach program, Meet Me @ the Center. People with Alzheimer’s and their care partners will be invited to the BBAC to partake in art looking and art making. Modeled after and trained by the Museum of Modern Art’s program, Meet Me @ MOMA, the program aims to engage participants in discussion to transcend their everyday struggle with memory loss.
